Construction

Construction
Honest building.

Overview

A drawing is a promise. Construction is the place that promise is kept — or quietly broken. We build from sets we have produced ourselves, which means the intent of the design is held by the same hands that lay it out on site.
Honest building is, before anything else, an attitude toward materials and labour. Quantities are taken truthfully. Substitutions, when they arise, are reasoned and recorded. The trades who join the work are paid and treated as the long-term partners they need to be.
A site, well run, has a particular calm to it. That calm is not an aesthetic — it is the sign that thinking has happened upstream and that everyone on the ground knows what the next week looks like.

What this includes

Construction

In the arc

Construction is where the architecture and engineering decisions meet weather, ground, and labour. Drawings flow into the work; questions flow back to the studio. By the time we hand the building over to maintenance, we have already answered most of the questions the next decade will ask of it.

One practice

Five disciplines, held together.

What to expect

Working with us

Steady reporting rather than dramatic updates. We tell you where the work is, what the next decision is, and which decisions are ours to take without troubling you.
A site that you can visit and read. Materials staged sensibly, drawings posted where the trades use them, a programme that matches what is actually happening.
A handover document at the end that is genuinely useful — not a binder for the shelf.

When you are ready

A considered conversation, not a quick quote.
