Project Facts

Hongtsho Scholar’s Retreat

A compact duplex conceived through an integrated design-and-build approach, enabling close coordination between design intent, construction efficiency, and project budget. Designed as a secluded retreat for a scholar, the home provides spaces for reflection, study, and writing within a calm and contemplative natural setting.
The architecture responds sensitively to the site topography, minimizing unnecessary intervention while optimizing orientation to capture maximum sunlight in the cold Himalayan climate. Spatial planning is carried out mindfully to ensure efficient space utilization, varied spatial experiences, enhanced natural light, and uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
The design-and-build delivery method allowed for greater cost control, streamlined decision-making, and efficient execution, ensuring that design quality, material choices, and construction outcomes remained aligned with the client’s vision and budget. The project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and integrated project delivery can create architecture that is efficient, context-responsive, and deeply connected to its environment.
